Arc creates dream-like meditative soundscapes with melodic layers, unique timbres and driving rhythms. The trio comprised of Indo-Canadian musician Stephen (The Venk) Venkatarangam (modular/semi-modular synths, plucked strings and effected flute and voice), Annabelle Brault (modular/semi-modular analog synths), and Adrian Aitken (digital drums) came together in 2018.

The musicians’ diverse worlds merge in arc, a deep immersion into improvisation, realtime composition, and electronics. By blending the randomness of modular synthesizers with the warmth of traditional instruments, analog synths, and effects, they create unique, improvised music without tonal, timbral, rhythmic, or compositional constraints. Their video projections, controlled by the voltages of their instruments via video synthesis, further enhance this interaction. The result is a conversation between musicians, humans, and organic technology, delivering music that takes the listener on a journey.

In addition to elements of raga and minimalism, the band is inspired by electronic music pioneers such as Tangerine Dream, later electronic infused projects such as Caribou and Tortoise as well as contemporary modular and electronic artists such as Alessandro Cortini, Katelyn Aurelia Smith and Holly Herndon.
